Why western knitting lessons don't work

Have you noticed what happens like this: you will find a beautiful thing on the Internet, there is a diagram for it, and it’s good if the description is, but is it in another language?

If you are familiar with the language, then you can get out of the situation, and if not, it remains to rely on the scheme. The same goes for video tutorials or hand-drawn knitting examples. Then one “but” appears.

Even with a pattern / lesson, the result does not always live up to expectations, especially if the pattern is small, scanned, and of poor quality.

So what's the problem: in the lesson or in our skills?

An incomprehensible scheme example

Of course, a lot depends on the chosen type of lesson: video, diagram, description. However, they all have common features that prevent us from linking the same thing.

Consider the main problems of such lessons:

  • Legend

This applies mainly to descriptions. Even having found the correct translation of a symbol, one cannot be sure that this is exactly what is needed. This problem is also common in schemes, if the craftswoman who drew her has an incomprehensible handwriting.

  • Incomprehensible manner of knitting

This item applies to video lessons and lessons with many photos, but without a description. Each needlewoman, one way or another, but develops her own manner of knitting. I am among them. Therefore, I often heard comments that I knit strange. This is normal, you just need to be able to decode all movements when knitting.

  • Incomplete schematic descriptions

Naturally, any needlewoman will “tremble” over her work. Especially if the whole process, including the scheme, is copyrighted. Therefore, many consciously hide most of the work, give incomplete schemes or descriptions.

  • Circuit Mismatch

Or it happens that at the first glance at the original work and the circuit, everything is the same. But in fact - the pattern is different. This may be due to the fact that in the process the needlewoman changed her idea and added new elements that she likes.

  • No additional nuances

For example, when knitting a sweater or cardigan / dress, there is no necessary pattern. It is not clear how to sew or tie parts of a thing to each other. It is difficult to understand whether a thing fits in with motives or around.

  • Lubricated Schemes

What do I mean by this paragraph? The quality of video and photos plays a big role. If the photos were taken a long time, blurry, incomprehensible, too small, then it will be very difficult to understand what exactly the scheme is for them. The same problem with the video.

Looking through all this, it becomes clear that a lot of things in foreign lessons can simply play a cruel joke. Sometimes even without the fault of the needlewoman herself.

Blaming yourself for not succeeding is not worth it. First you need to check the quality of all the components of the lesson, only after that you can draw conclusions.
