Only not metal! What is the right way to store honey

Honey is a unique product that should always be in any home. But unfortunately, not everyone knows how to properly store it.

The ideal container for storing honey is, of course, glass.

Ceramic or wooden containers can also be used. But what to use in no case impossible, so it's metal, aluminum containers, copper, cast iron and even stainless.

Honey very quickly reacts with any metal, this greatly affects its taste and healing properties.

In a metal container, only short-term storage of honey is allowed, for example, in order to deliver it from point A to point B.

An important point is shelf life of honey. Honey is a preservative, like salt and vinegar. And like any preservative, honey has no expiration date.

It can literally be stored forever!

For example, I’ll tell you that ceramic bowls with honey are still found in Egyptian pyramids. This honey was taken for analysis; for more than 3,000 thousand years, it only slightly lost its aromatic component, but at the same time retained all the beneficial properties.

Each of you may well ask a logical question: But what about honey from a store where its shelf life is clearly indicated, for example 3 or 5 years?

To pack honey in small containers at the factory, it has to be heated. From a viscous natural state to a state of water. Of course, after such heating, honey completely or partially loses its useful properties, and with it, its storage period is greatly reduced.

If honey has not been heat-treated, placed in a suitable container and kept at the recommended temperature (5-25 degrees), its shelf life is eternal!

However, do not forget that honey is extremely hygroscopic, it can easily absorb and give moisture to the environment. Ideal humidity in mature honey is 20%.

However, if the ambient humidity is several times higher, the initial moisture content of honey may increase, which will greatly affect its shelf life.

In addition, honey has the ability to absorb odors, therefore it is not recommended to keep containers with honey open. Of course, if you are not pursuing a direct goal, there is honey with the aroma of garlic, onions, beets, or anything else.

Now check what you are storing honey in and if necessary urgently pour it into a glass container.
