Few people in our time do not know these names: Peter and Fevronia, princes of Murom. It is not without reason that the Church honors them as saints, for their history, beautiful and tragic, is immortalized in the annals as an amazing example of strong love and Christian faith.
Peter, the younger brother of Prince of Murom of Murom, in his youth suffered from his own benefactor and a slander of ill-wishers. It so happened that Pavel’s wife was overcome by a curse sent by unknown people: a kite flew into her habit. As the legend of them says, having yielded to the evil demonic spirit, the wife told Pavel about this and, imbued with her fear, ordered her to find out from the snake how to kill a monster. Entering confidence in the snake, the princess learned that he would find his death from the shoulder of Petrov and Agrikov’s sword. Prince Peter, whom Paul immediately told about this, immediately went to the temple and the Lord opened to him the place of storage of the magic sword. Armed, Peter tracked down the snake and after a long bloody battle pierced him with a sword. However, before his death, the insidious demon managed to hit the winner with his poisonous blood. The prince was immediately covered with sores and scabs.
Peter's appeal to the Lord
The prince’s serious illness was incurable, and Peter treated her with all humility, surrendering to the Lord with thoughts and deeds. Seeing his true Christian attitude, the Lord penetrated his servant and told that the prince would find his cure in Ryazan.
One of the princely envoys, wandering around Ryazan in search of a healer, went into one of the houses where Fevronia, a sweet and faithful girl, lived alone. Being the daughter of a poison frog, she was famous among the locals for her gift of insight and the ability to heal by touch. After listening to the request of the envoy, she ordered him to bring the prince to her. “Being humble and sincere in his words, he will become healthy”, - were her parting words.
After a sick illness, the prince was immediately taken to her house. Once at her gate, the prince sent to ask who this unknown healer was and to promise a huge reward for his cure. Fevronia told him that she sincerely wants to cure Peter, but does not require any reward from him, except one. "Only by becoming a wife to him can I heal him." Peter, surprised by these words, immediately agreed, but in his heart was not sure that he could keep his word. The princely position and responsibility before his family were an insurmountable obstacle.
The treatment of wise Fevronia
Fevronia, as mentioned before, was a wonderfully insightful virgin, pretending to believe the prince’s words, and invited him to the house. Seeing her, the prince felt a great attraction and could not take his eyes off the Russian beauty. In the meantime, she scooped up the starter cultures for bread, whispered a prayer at her, blew and ordered the prince to wash himself in the bathhouse, grease all the scabs with leaven, and leave one alone.
Surprised the second time, the prince, however, complied with the order. It was not for nothing that the wise woman prescribed him such a strange treatment. Being blessed by God and having the wisdom of the holy fathers, she knew a lot about the treatment of ailments. Like the Lord, who healed lepers and serious patients, healed the soul through bodily diseases, so she prescribed healing for the body, aiming to cure the soul. Knowing that the Lord allows all kinds of diseases to test the soul and atone for sins, she sent the prince to the bathhouse. For according to the Holy Scriptures, it was the bathhouse that had the image of baptism and sin cleansing (as the message of St. Paul to the Ephesians 5:26). The leaven by the Lord Himself coincided with the likeness of the kingdom of heaven, inheriting the souls whitened by the baptismal bath.
Knowing the cunning and rebellious pride of the prince, she ordered him to leave one of the scabs for good reason - thereby he testified to his sin. After the ritual, Fevronia released the prince and immediately he fled back to Murom. However, soon the disease recurred from the scab and he returned to the girl. This time he firmly decided to keep his word and atone for his sin. After recovering, the prince took Fevronia as a wife and took him to the city of Murom, where they began to live godly, according to the commandments of God.
Rise of the boyars against the unrecognized Princess Fevronia
Soon, Paul died a peaceful death and power lay on Peter's shoulders. He was respected and revered by the boyars, but their wives did not like the healer, for she was a peasant, and this hurt their pride. The nobles began in every possible way to torment Fevronia, raising slander against her, persuading their husbands, slandering the prince about her fallen. Fevronia was resistant to attacks, until, rebelling, the people offered her, taking anything, to leave Murom. The princess succumbed to their influence, but did not want to take anything but her husband. Inspired by the boyars, they immediately told the prince about this, secretly sword in his place. And Blessed Peter, seeing that the people had risen in their sin, forgave them, voluntarily abandoned everything and went into exile with Fevronia.
Sailing on the river in two ships, Peter suddenly saw a man, looking at Fevronia, forget about his wife next to him. The prince wanted to be indignant, but the act of his princess surprised and delighted not only him, but also all those present. Having guessed the man’s intention, the saint rebuked him: “Scoop up water first from one side, then from the other. Will the water taste the same, or sweeter on the left? ”Equally, the Muromese was embarrassed. “So the bosom of women is the same,” smiled Fevronia. “What are you, having forgotten your wife about someone else’s thirst?” The convicted person immediately repented of his sin and knelt before the woman’s sanctity.
Having approached the coast, the princes got a night's sleep and Petra overcame sadness. Seeing the condition of the spouse, the wise wife consoled him: “The Lord is merciful and will not leave us!”
Happy return
In the morning, the Murom ambassadors woke Peter, begging the prince to return, for during his absence the boyars quarreled, fought and again sought peace. The blessed ones humbly followed the ambassadors and reigned in Murom again, reigning wisely and mercifully for many years.
In old age they adopted monasticism, taking the names David and Euphrosyne, and publicly asked the Lord to let them rest at the same time.They bequeathed themselves to be buried in a special coffin with a thin partition between them. The Lord heard their prayers and they died in one day and one hour in their cells. However, people felt that burying in one coffin was ungodly and violated their covenant. But twice their bodies, divorced in different temples, miraculously became next again. And people, having seen a miracle, buried them in one coffin near the Cathedral of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin. This place has become a place of pilgrimage and power.
Memorial Day to the blessed Peter and Fevronia is celebrated on June 25 / July 8.

There is no established schedule by which the prayers of these saints should be read. Heaven hears us at any time of the day, any day of the week and any day of the month. Most of all are prayers to Peter and Fevronia for the preservation of the family on the day dedicated to their memory: June 25 and July 8, however, on other days, the saints favor the worshipers. They should be read without losing their hands, not once, but several, every day, until the desire comes true.
After the desired is achieved, the saints should be respected by taking the flowers to their burial, or, if this is not possible, put the saint in their name in the temple. You can put an icon with their image in the house and set next to a vase with fresh flowers, changing them as necessary.
