Prayers

Anyone needs faith. It so happened that it is faith in a higher power that supports, gives strength, helps you find your life path and in difficult situations does not allow you to give up. And prayer helps in this. Every believer at least once wondered what prayers must be known. In the article we will tell you more about the main Orthodox prayers.

What prayers should every Orthodox know?

The main prayers in Orthodoxy

Speaking about the faith and power of the Lord, it should be noted that since ancient times a person has been looking for a way to communicate with God, to ask for favor and blessing for himself or his relatives. And if in the church we feel closer to the Almighty, and the clergy help to understand his covenants and ease the soul, then prayer is used to appeal to heaven. Moreover, the correct prayer contains proper treatment, and is filled with the right emotions, and conveys the necessary semantic message. Not every word is a prayer, but every prayer is a word that can reach the Lord.

The main prayers that every Orthodox should know:

  • Our Father;
  • Jesus Prayer
  • Appeal to the Blessed Virgin Mary.

Lord's Prayer

Prayers and Psalms

The main prayer of the Orthodox is Our Father, also called the Lord's Prayer. Several varieties of this prayer service are known:

  • short version;
  • full version;
  • in Church Slavonic;
  • in modern Russian.

The most correct prayer is considered the full version of Matthew. Its difference from the prayer service presented by Luke is in the last line: “For Thine is the Kingdom and power and glory forever. Amen". In Church Slavonic, the final phrase is missing. The most common among the people is a short version in Russian:

“Our Father who is in heaven!
Hallowed be thy name;
Thy kingdom come;
Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven;
Give us our daily bread to this day;
And forgive us our debts, just as we forgive our debtors;
And do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. Amen".

The praise of “Our Father” is considered universal, it is used in various situations:

  • In church services;
  • Before reading other prayers;
  • After prayers, as the final text;
  • Together with the morning prayer rule;
  • In moments of intense emotion to calm the mind and soul;
  • In difficult life situations to find the right solution.

Jesus prayer

Main prayer

A prayer-appeal to Jesus Christ is represented by real chant. Despite the brevity, it contains a considerable meaning. With this prayer service we turn to the Son of God and pray for forgiveness, remission of sins, help and mercy.

The most common option: "Lord have mercy!".It is read in chant at church services, at the end of the main prayers. Also, this combination is repeated mentally before entering the temple and is considered a universal appeal in difficult moments. However, for private use, the full version is recommended:

“Lord, Jesus Christ, the Son of God, have mercy on me, a sinner.”

It is believed that there are three ways to read this praise:

  1. Actually - out loud when we pray to the Lord.
  2. Mind - mentally, in order to appeal to God at various points.
  3. A smart-hearted reading, where the mind is a mental pronunciation, and the heart message corresponds to the meaning of the words.

Each of these methods should be performed with deep and sincere faith, filling the words with your gratitude and putting the proper meaning.

Prayers to the Blessed Virgin Mary

Main prayers to the Virgin

Appeals to the Queen of Heaven are directed, first of all, to spiritual peace. Ask the intercessor:

  • about the protection and preservation of the hearth and loved ones from evil spirits, enemies, evil looks;
  • help in family relationships;
  • aiding conflict resolution.

The main prayers addressed to the Virgin:

Hail Virgin, rejoice:

"Virgin Mary, rejoice, graceful Mary, Lord be with you, Blessed are you in women and blessed The fruit of thy womb, because you gave birth to our souls."

It is worthy to eat:

“It is worthy to truly glorify you, the Mother of God, forever blessed and unblemished, and the Mother of our God. With the honor of the highest Cherubim and incomparably glorious Seraphim, who gave birth to the Word of God, the true Virgin Mary, We glorify you. ”

Oh, All-Matter Mother:

“O all-mother, who gave birth to the Word, holiest of all saints! Having accepted the present offering, deliver from all misfortune and withdraw from all the future torment of all who exclaim to you: Hallelujah! ”

About you rejoices:

“He rejoices about Thee, Grace, all creation: the angelic host and the human race. You are a sanctified temple and a spiritual paradise, the glory of virginity, from which God was incarnated and became Our Infant before all centuries. For he entrenched thy bowels to the throne, and made thy womb more extensive than heaven. “Rejoices in Thee, Grace, all creation, glory to Thee!”

Oh, glorious miracle:

“Oh, glorious miracle! Heaven and earth, the Tsarina, implored from our holy relatives, to this day covers the Russian land and graciously enriches the face of her image. About the Lady of the Sovereign! Do not fall for the future, in the affirmation in Russia of Orthodoxy, mercy and miracles are poured out to the end. Amen".

Glorifications praise the Mother of God, cry out to her for advice and ask for a miracle. The most important, revered and used prayer is considered to be the Virgin Mary, Rejoice. They turn to her for deliverance from ailments: mental and physical, healing from damage and the evil eye, about happiness in everyday life.

Symbol of faith

Symbol of Faith Text

The symbol of Faith is also one of the main sacred texts. Its difference is that it is not represented by prayer, like the others, but by a brief and accurate exposition of words taken from Ecumenical Councils. The symbol of Faith is a confession that does not contain appeals to God or Saints. It consists of 12 members, where everyone speaks of a specific power: the Father, the Son, the Holy Spirit, the church, baptism, resurrection, and eternal life.
